BW GLOBAL Structures Inc. is Western Canada's largest greenhouse and shelter manufacturer. Our greenhouses are state of the art facilities with fully integrated growing systems (irrigation, fertigation, lighting systems, heating systems, ventilation systems, photo-control, and controls automation). 

We are growing our company and are now accepting resumes for the position of Technical Project Manager. This is an exciting career opportunity for a highly organized project manager who has a proven track record of working with technical cross-functional teams varying in size and delivering projects to the highest standards while meeting cost objectives and profitability goals. You will liaise with most company departments to ensure projects are delivered per client specifications and timelines.  

Major Responsibilities:

  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders to support continuous innovation adoption and technological advancement of company products and offerings
  • Support Research and Develop efforts with an emphasis on new product design & documentation as it relates to systems that are directly applicable to client projects
  • Support Commercialization efforts with an emphasis on logistics, international logistics (shipping requirements etc..)
  • Critical System research and benchmarking, with a focus on inputs/outputs and their role in mitigating client/project risks
  • Analyze client requirement and translate into actionable steps to deliver complex systems solutions that are market ready
  • Support new major client development and administration
  • Support systems design and calculations
  • Support system integration into client designs
  • New product/system installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of technical writing/development
  • New product supplier and contractor management
  • Support IP protection strategy
  • Assist with all related general and technical development and improvement of existing and new products and services.
  • Support client proposal tool development
  • Oversee projects from start to end and ensure that all work is completed on schedule and on budget
  • Review financial data, anticipating variances and maintaining positive cash flow on each assigned project 
  • Maintain project files and ensure that each member of the project team receives accurate and detailed information on a timely basis 
  • Review information from the Construction Team and submit timely reports, including project progress, schedule, expenses, resources, and other incidents 
  • Review and circulate all shop drawings for approval and ensuring that the project schedule is maintained 
  • Update relevant stakeholders on overall project progress, as well as changes or concerns that might delay the completion date 
  • Schedule site inspections as required
  • Coordinate with the Project Lead to ensure that Owners are billed correctly as per the contract 
  • Managing all sub-contractors 
  • Obtain approval to make amendments to the project schedule and budget, if needed, and notify all relevant stakeholders 
  • Maintain positive relationships and identify opportunities for future projects/business development 
  • Complete project turnover documentation
  • Support the development of specifications for structures and systems required by the Client(s)

Direction Received: 

The position interfaces directly with the Client Success Team (CST), Innovation Team, Technical Team, Production Team and Client Teams. It works with the CST to develop project scope based on client requirements. It requires an analytical, highly organized, and detail-oriented individual who has hands-on experience in working with cross-functional teams and technical aptitudes to translate client requirement into the scope of work and co-develop required solutions with the Innovation Team. The successful candidate will have lead teams of technicians, engineers and trades to manage/ deliver highly technical systems/solutions. The candidate should have a good sense of urgency especially in conveying timely information to and from staff. The candidate should be able to work independently with limited direction and guidance while maintaining efficiency and working within the financial constraints of the Company. Attention to cost efficiencies will also be critical. 

Giving Direction: 

Direction & feedback regarding project status and requirements will be given to all stakeholders to ensure appropriate project progress and project awareness with internal and client team. The candidate should be able to demand timely information in order to make decisions or convey technical information to those inquiring. 

Work Environment and Job Complexity: 

The position will require most tasks to be performed inside the office, with project site visits to evaluate project status or commissioning or sales support as needed. Multi-tasking and a high level of organization will be critical. 

Work Experience: 

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams with diverse international backgrounds an asset.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to diagnose, plan and implement systems upgrades
  • Hands-on experience working with computerized MRP / ERP systems
  • Hands-on experience working to diagnose possible systems improvements, opportunities for new systems and products 
  • Experience working with highly complex systems (electrical, mechanical, integrated, computerized)

Interpersonal Contacts:

The position will have a high degree of interpersonal contact with the President, Director of Operations, Director of Projects, Controller, Factory personnel, and Buyer. This will require strong communication, follow through, and negotiation skills. A Positive attitude and a proactive solution seeker will be key attributes.
